Raúl Ortiz de Lejarazu Leonardo: "La huella serológica de la gripe española en humanos"

Raúl Ortiz de Lejarazu is virologist and Director of the WHO collaborating National Influenza Centre at the School of Medicine, University of Valladolid and Head of the Microbiology and Immunology Department at the Hospital Clínico Universitario in Valladolid. He is Professor of Microbiology at the School of Medicine, University of Valladolid, Spain. He was graduated and doctorate in Medicine and Surgery. He is a specialist in Microbiology and Parasitology, as well as in Preventive Medicine and Public Health. He was a former WHO fellow for influenza virus in Lyons laboratory (Université Claude Bernard). He belongs to the Spanish offitial body of Public Health. His main research interests include influenza and viral respiratory infections and other issues of clinical virology (HIV, viral gastroenteritis, HPV, etc.) and he has authored over 250 publications in scientific journals, books and monographs, and proceedings of national and international conferences. Prof. Ortiz de Lejarazu is a member of WHO European Influenza Surveillance Network and Director of one of 144 National Influenza Centres of WHO GISRS (Global Influenza Surveillance & Response System). Is an active member of the Spanish Influenza Monitoring Group and EISS (European Influenza Surveillance Scheme) and has been member of a number of committees and working parties related with flu, including the Expert Group for Drafting a Response Plan for Pandemic Influenza, Ministry of Health and Consumer Affairs and the National Subcommittee for Monitoring the Response Plan for Pandemic Influenza, Ministry of Health and Consumer Affairs. He belongs to the main Spanish Committee of Response to Pandemic Influenza a and member of the CIBERESP Cases and Controls in Pandemic Influenza Working Group an Spanish research consortium devoted to respiratory infection research. Was nominated for the Expert Advising Committee for Ebola Disease in Castile and Leon, Spain. Has been recognized by the WHO Regional Director as one of the laboratories committed in Polio Eradication in the European Region and belongs to CIBERESP platform for Spanish respiratory viruses research. He is also on the editorial board of several well-respected journals.
